Judging

A panel of nine judges presides over each apparatus. The judges are divided into panels in order to calculate the final score (f) wich is calculated as follows: F = D + E - penalties.

D The Difficulty panel, made up of two judges, calculates the D-score, which is based on the difficulty of the routine

E The Execution panel, made up of five judges, is responsible for the E-score,which is determined by the gymnasts execution of the routine. The E-score  is calculated by dropping the higest and lowest score and averaging the three remaining scores.

R The two remaining judges are reference judges, part of the references judges system (RJS) that has been introduced to establish an  automatic correction system in case of any problems with the E-scores. The R-score is calculated by averaging the marks of the two reference judges. If the gap between th E-score and the R-score is to big the E-score will be replaced by the average of the R-score and the E-score.Otherwise the E-score will remain the same.
